Change May be the Most Stable Opportunity

Stability is almost as important a feeling as hope and at least for me directly coincides with my happiness. However stability can be our Achilles heel. Once we are in a position that is secure and earns a sufficient living it makes it hard to leave even if you are miserable. If you are in a situation where you feel like you are stuck I would try and find some hope somewhere. Constantly look for a new job, a new scene, anything new that can keep your life interesting outside of work.

A Conscious Conscience

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi believes that if firms only focus on how much money they can make, and not about their affect on the community and employees, then many will never enjoy their work. I agree that for the most part if a firm does everything it can to make a quick buck there are generally some business practices that would make anyone not enjoy what they do. However, what Mihaly is asking goes against how public corporations are set up today, what he wants is a conscientious shareholder.

Color or Colour: What it means to you

Many people don’t realize the affect different colors can have on our emotional responses. Something I have always been curious about is what does your favorite color mean about you. If your favorite color is red are you very sexy, yellow are you playful, orange are you passionate, let me know.

How Long Does Change Take?

Will business continue to rule the world forever? Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi claims that if business stays on its quick profit and greedy course citizens will cease to take their rule anymore and will eventually revolt and look for a new leader. He uses examples such as the church who at one time ruled the world, yet are now arguably the weakest they have ever been. I agree with Mihaly, that the mentality of how can I make the most money in the least amount of time is starting to take over almost like a plague. You can find it in business schools across the country and even in us.

Soul Business

In Good Business by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi there is a big focus made on soul and a leader’s vision. Mihaly comments that many business leaders “endorse a vision for their companies that is characterized by soulfulness,” yet I don’t know if I buy into what he describes as the soul. He sums it up as what takes a vision beyond what shareholders or company executives want and accomplishes larger goals. I believe that companies may have a soul, but it’s something more along the lines of company culture, not grand visions.
